Commonwealth, State and Territory Environment Ministers have agreed that the export of waste paper, plastic, glass and tyres that have not been processed into value-added materials should be banned. The ban is proposed to commence 1 July 2020 with a phased approach:
All waste glass by July 2020
Mixed waste plastics by July 2021
All whole tyres including baled tyres by December 2021
Single resin/polymer plastics that have not been re-processed; mixed paper and cardboard and baled paper and cardboard by July 2022
Refer to the Department of Environment & Energy's Discussion Paper detailing a series of questions to guide the consultation process.
Submissions are due 3 December 2019.
