Australia Day Public Holiday

In NSW and the ACT, when Australia Day falls on a weekend, the public holiday is observed on the following Monday.

This year, the public holiday is observed on Monday 28 January and penalty rates apply for work on that day. Full-time and part-time employees who would normally work on Monday 28 January are entitled to payment for the day at their ordinary rate if they have the day off.

Saturday 26 January is a normal Saturday as far as penalty rates go. This advice is consistent with that provided by NSW Industrial Relations and the Office of the ACT Chief Minister and Treasury.
