Council-supplied organic waste bins

Chamber members are reminded that, from next week, only Council-issued organic waste bins with lime green lids will be emptied.
Members are encouraged to ensure that all food and garden waste is placed into the bin loose or in compostable bags which are available for free from Council’s Civic Centre at 184 Bourke Street, Goulburn.
Food and garden waste must not be placed in plastic bags, or any bag that is not certified compostable to Australian Standard AS 4736-2006 – they must have the logo.
The contents of your organic waste bin will be turned into nutrient-rich compost, so only place the following in your green bin:
any raw or cooked food
teabags and coffee grounds
fruit and vegetables
peelings
leftovers and take-away food (no containers)
meat and seafood (including bones)
dairy
eggshells
cooking oil (soaked up in paper towel)
paper towels
used tissues
pizza boxes
soiled/wet paper
shredded paper
newspaper
pet manure and compostable kitty litter (in compostable bags or newspaper)
grass clippings
leaves
weeds
prunings
flowers
twigs
small branches
Do not place garbage, plastic bags, soft plastics, polystyrene, coffee cups, nappies, soil, plant pots, or hazardous items in your green bin. Council staff will be inspecting bins every week over summer. Bins that contain contamination will not be emptied.
